Penta students will show off Habitat home

Students in construction programs at Penta Career Center will get to show off their handiwork Sunday during an open house for a home the students built in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Wood County.

Since September, students in Penta’s construction carpentry, masonry, electricity, heating and air conditioning technology, construction trades, and construction concepts programs have been building the 1,200-square-foot house. The ranch-style home at 223 Bacon St. in Rossford has three bedrooms and 1½ bathrooms. Special features include a custom television cabinet and energy-efficient construction.

Students at Penta, in Perrysburg Township, worked on many aspects of the construction project, including framing, roofing, electrical, drywall, heating and air conditioning, shingles, siding, masonry, plumbing, and some finish carpentry.

Habitat for Humanity of Wood County secured materials through funding provided by local corporate sponsorships, Rossford, and a fund-raiser. Materials were also donated by local vendors and corporations.

The open house starts at 1 p.m. with a dedication ceremony. Showings are available until 4 p.m. Access is available only via Bergin Street off Dixie Highway in downtown Rossford near the Huntington Bank branch.
