Woman shot at apartment in Perrysburg

A 77-year-old Perrysburg man accused of shooting his 55-year-old stepdaughter in his apartment at Waterford at Levis Commons was arraigned in court earlier today.

Judge Molly Mack of Perrysburg Municipal Court ordered Henry Bond to remain lodged in the Wood County jail in lieu of $75,000 bond. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim and a preliminary hearing was set for 9:30 a.m. April 14.

Perrysburg Deputy Chief Jim Rose said Mr. Bond is charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, for the Tuesday shooting of Brenda Walls. Police took Mr. Bond to the Wood County jail Tuesday evening, Chief Rose said.

Ms. Walls was shot just before 3 p.m. in her stepfather’s apartment after a family dispute, police said. Police did not say where Ms. Walls lived.

Her mother, Mr. Bond’s wife, was present at the time, Chief Rose said.

No one else was injured and police recovered the weapon at the scene, they said.

To his knowledge, Chief Rose said, police have not been previously called to the residence.

Chief Rose said police were determining the gun’s registration and ownership. Police did not know whether owning a gun was permitted at Waterford at Levis Commons.

The apartment was at 7100 South Wilkinson Way, just west of Levis Commons shopping center. A woman who answered the phone at Waterford at Levis Commons said there would be no comment.

“These things don’t happen here regularly but we are not immune,” Chief Rose said.

The investigation is continuing, though police had not interviewed the victim because she was being treated.

Chief Rose had no information on how many times Ms. Walls was shot, nor the extent of her injuries.

She was taken to the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital. Her condition was not provided, nor were details about where she was shot. UTMC officials said they had no information on a patient by that name.

When asked why she was not taken to the closer Mercy Hospital emergency services center in Perrysburg, Chief Rose said he couldn’t speak to where the ambulance took the victim.
