Dining options in Perrysburg expanded recently, with the reopening of the rejuvenated Perrysburgers.
The popular burger joint in downtown Perrysburg is back after a two-month hiatus and is gearing up to celebrate a grand reopening with a new chef and a new menu.
“We’re just easing into things,” said Dana Doremus-Lynch, chef and manager of the restaurant. “We’ll be doing some special promotions to make ourselves more visible and make people aware that we’re here.”
The restaurant quietly reopened in February, after closing abruptly in November when the previous chef quit unexpectedly. The owners took that as an opportunity to remodel, Ms. Doremus-Lynch said. The interior renovations include new paint, a faux brick wall, a television, and an exposed-ductwork ceiling.
“It adds an ambience to the place,” said Ms. Doremu-Lynch, 43, a former line cook at Scene, the sports bar at Hollywood Casino Toledo.
Perrysburgers opened in 2010 on Louisiana Avenue near Third Street. The small-family owned diner is known for its certified Angus beef burgers and hefty helpings of fries. As part of the renovation, the restaurant reverted back to its original menu of more than a dozen burger options, including the Kobe burger, featuring a high-quality Wagyu beef from New Zealand.
“A lot of these burgers are the burgers they started out with and had a lot of success with,” Ms. Doremus-Lynch said. “I add my own spin, by adding or swapping out some of the toppings. They were using bottle sauces; stuff they could buy. Now, I’m pretty much making everything from scratch.”
The changes, so far, have been well received by customers who have visited, she said.
Andrew Stainbrook, who co-owns a downtown business, said he stops by once a week. Since the reopening, he said, “The food is fresher, the service is excellent. It’s just a much better place.”
The restaurant is having grand reopening special this week and it plans to have themed dinners, Facebook contests, and a secret menu later in the year.
